Pregnancy tests by HomeTest.gr detect and measure the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) which is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the developing placenta shortly after fertilization.
In normal circumstances and after ovulation has occured, hCG can be detected in urine as early as 9-10 days following conception, doubling every 2 to 3 days and reaching 100mlU/ml at the first missed menstrual period.
The appearance of hCG soon after conception and its subsequent rise in concentration during early gestational growth make it an excellent marker for the early detection of pregnancy.
When to collect urine
The intensity of the result line on the pregnancy test is proportional to the amount of the hormone hCG in the urine sample. It is advisable to use early morning urine because hCG is more concentrated then. However, you can easily use the tests at any other time of the day. Also avoid drinking liquids (water, coffee, etc.) for 2 hours before using the test, as the hormone may be diluted and the test may not show proper results.
